Desert Gravel kicks off and wraps up in downtown Fruita, Colorado—right at the base of the Book Cliffs and minutes from the Utah border. Your hub for race-day action, post-ride revelry, and high desert vibes.

Our staging area includes:

  • Start/Finish line festivities

  • Rider services and package pickup

  • Chill zones for spectators and teams

  • Nearby access to camping, coffee, and beer (obviously)

Registration & Rider Limits

Desert Gravel brings the spirit of the Old West with a gravel twist: vast landscapes, beautiful mesas, big climbs, and a healthy fear of extinction. All riders must register in advance for liability and logistics purposes.

  • Maximum Riders: 1,000 total

  • E-bikes: Allowed on Fruitadens and Pterodactyl courses only.

Each route is a fully marked dino-sized adventure across remote desert terrain, private land access, and rolling high-desert gravel. These roads aren't open year-round—they’re a special treat, just for race day.

Camping in Fruita

Event camping is hosted at Old Fruita Middle School—just two blocks from the start/finish. This rider village offers space for RVs, vans, and tents.

Air Quality / Wildfire Contingency

In case of wildfire smoke, we’ll follow the U.S. EPA AQI ratings.

  • If AQI > 200 at race start, the stage may be modified or canceled.

  • Between 150–200: Course may be neutralized or shortened at the Race Director’s discretion.

Exclusion of Liability

Users of this website acknowledge and understand that information and routes presented and engaging in activities on routes may involve risk of damage to personal property or serious bodily injury, including permanent disability and death, and severe social and economic losses which might result not only from the user's own actions, inactions or negligence, but the actions, inactions or negligence of others, the condition of the premises, weather conditions, or the use of any equipment during participation of the activity. Users further acknowledge that there may be other risks not known or not reasonably foreseeable as at the chosen date of activity on routes. In this regard, users confirm that, prior to embarking on activity that they have acknowledged any and all risks, and waive right to take legal action against TransRockies Inc. including partners, affiliates, employees and associates of any and all outcomes of activities on routes.

Optional Registration Protection

Additional registration protection can be purchased through Protecht, which is a refund protection insurance for attendees. For a small premium, if you are unable to attend due to any of Protecht’s covered reasons, you have the option to file a refund request through them. We strongly encourage you to read & understand the full terms of Protecht’s insurance policy prior to registration.

TransRockies Inc reserves the right to cancel any TransRockies Race Series event, cancel race stages or change the route on short notice due to fire bans/fire closures, air quality, weather conditions, wildlife or safety concerns, pandemic, unforeseen construction, Acts of God or other such reasons with no reimbursement to the participant.

In the case of event cancellation by Transrockies Inc, no refunds will be available. All entries will be transferred to the next available date that the event is able to operate.

Event Cancellation

In the event of cancellation due to wildfire, air quality, pandemic, alien invasion, or other safety threats, TransRockies Inc. reserves the right to postpone or cancel the event. No refunds will be issued, but entries will be transferred to the next scheduled Desert Gravel date.

Cancellation & Deferral Policy

2026 Cancellation Policy

There are no refunds issued by Transrockies US LP under ANY circumstances.

Transfers of entry to another participant may be permitted at the discretion of TransRockies Inc for an admin fee of $50. All transfers must be completed no later than midnight on April 18, 2026.

Deferrals are permitted under the following guidelines:

Up to 60 days (February 18, 2026) out from the start of the event, 75% of your race fee will be deferred.

From 60 – 30 days (Feb 19 – Mar 20), 2026 out from the start of the event, 50% of your race fee will be deferred.

NO deferrals/roll overs/credits will be issued for registrations cancelled on or after March 21, 2026.

A full deferral is permitted for reasons due to pregnancy &/or active military deployment – medical notes will be required.

A race entry can only be deferred one time and only to the following year’s event.
